From Fine & Flyaway to Lustrous Locks! (New Year New Riah Part 2: It CAN be done …)

Inner Me Lustrous Locks ComplexDevoted readers might recall that I am on a quest to revitalise my alarmingly fine hair. My first post on this subject was back in January, when I resolved, with all manner of True Grit, that I would make 2013: New Year, New Riah. Optimistic fool that I am, I promised to update on my progress in February … and it’s now May. Apologies to all who have been on the edge of their seats: this update is disgracefully over-due.

I began by trying the Inner Me Lustrous Locks Vitamin Complex. Despite the genius packaging that reminds you to take your two pills every day, I still managed to miss a few tablets here and there. Nonetheless, I got results. About seven days in (and a couple of pills missed), I woke in the morning and my hair looked and felt … different. No Farrah Fawcett mane; it didn’t look as though the extension fairy had visited in the night, but it did look fuller, and softer without being limp.Inner Me Lustrous Locks Vitamin Complex Ingredients

Naturally, I rallied all my scepticism (and I have tons of it). Could it be a placebo effect? I was after all, longing for something good to happen; maybe I was just projecting… And was it really possible that I coud see a result so quickly? (I’d been wondering if I would see a difference at all, using just one pack.)

A second opinion was called for. “Do you notice anything different about me today?” I enquired of Mr Beheld (standing very stiff and adopting a severe expression, so as not to give any clues). He narrowed his eyes, and said “Your hair looks better.”

“You’re cheating!” I howled, outraged.

“How?” he asked, (reasonably enough, all things considered). “Do you think I am reading your mind?”

“No,” I sulked, ‘but I think it looks better too, and how can it when I’m only about half-way through the course. How can it possibly work so quickly?”

Mr Beheld pointed out that I do not take a painkiller and then start screaming in fear because it works within the hour – or sooner. Indeed, an entire Recreational Drugs Industry relies on the fact that taking things in tablet form by mouth is a very fast and effective way to get stuff into your bloodstream and affecting body and mind as desired.

I gave this some consideration whilst gently toying with my hair. I liked the toying. I liked the hair. And I broke into a big, radiant smile …

I did not miraculously develop a fabulous memory to go along with my new-found hair confidence, and so I still managed to skip a pill here and there, taking as I remembered, which strung my Inner Me Lustrous Locks course out to more like three weeks than two. I didn’t find that the thinning at the crown that distresses me disappeared; I didn’t have people coming up to me in the street saying “You have big, fat, bee-yoo-tiful hair”, but I did find that fewer strands came out when I washed  and brushed my hair, and the texture was better – less fly-away and softer without being limp.

iBeheld benefits from Inner Me Lustrous Locks vitamin complexI might have mentioned before that I am not at ease with photos of myself, but I hang my head in shame for forgetting to record my hair’s progress photographically for you to see. I have only one picture, taken when I was most enthusiastic about the Lustrous Locks and trying out my new Bourjois lipstick … as you can see, my hair is messy, but looks somewhat more abundant than usual. It even has height at the crown.

Most importantly, because I felt better about my hair, and had actually done something pro-active that had caused it to improve, for the first time ever I could be upfront about the concerns it caused me. And after finishing up the Luscious Locks, I found myself telling BeautyMART’s Millie Kendall about my thinning fears (and another story begins because of this, to be written in another post).

One brilliant thing that happened for me with Lustrous Locks was that it seemed to regulate my scalp a little. I have the kind of hair that is squeaky-clean after washing, but looks filthy the very next day. My exciting dream-life must make me a hot and sweaty sleeper, I suppose, but I found that whilst taking Lustrous Locks I could definitely go one extra day without washing (even though my dreams were just as exciting). I became braver about allowing my hair to be a bit filthy and just scraping it up in a bun until it seemed reasonable to wash it. I think this was very good for my hair, and it’s a habit I’ve maintained.

Umberto Giannini Beauty Secrets Moisture Balm and Leave In ConditionerI did try a couple of conditioning rinses and leave-in conditioners whilst taking Lustrous Locks, but never found anything that I thought helped at all. However, just trying was a huge step forward, as it meant that Lustrous Locks had reduced my ridiculous – but nonetheless inhibiting – fear that I would try the wrong thing and the whole lot would just fall out. I used to dream of that happening, but I don’t now.

It’s possible that such a short course of  Lustrous Locks could do so much for me because I have the diet of an unsupervised 14 year old and the vitamin levels to match. It’s also possible that just nerving yourself to face your fears helps with the stress levels that can underlie thinning. Either way, I recommend you give Lustrous Locks a go if you feel your hair needs a shot of love and goodness. I think it woud be a great pick-me-up if you’ve been ill or stressed. I could see a difference within a 2-week course; but a 6 week course is recommended. if you’re sceptical, buy one packet and see if it makes a difference. If it does you can invest in another two packets and do a full 6-week course.

Once the Lustrous Locks had been finished, I had the Beautify Me! Vitamin Complex to look forward to. This was a huge relief, as I was fearing a post-Lustrous Locks come-down similar to post-pregnancy hair horrors. If you haven’t suffered this yourself, be grateful. In a nutshell, you lose less hair when you are pregnant, and so once the baby is born, and normal shedding resumes – it is terrifying. I caught up with Inner Me founder Nikki Cooper at a John Bell & Croyden event in February, when I’d finished the 2 weeks of Lustrous Locks and was embarking on the Beautify Me! capsules. I mentioned that my nails had seemed a little stronger on the Lustrous Locks. Wait until the Beautify Me kicks in, she advised, you’ll really see a difference in your nails then …

Check back next week to find out how those Beautify Me! capsules worked out, and to find out which lotions and potions I’ve been thrilled to discover in my journey towards good hair.
