April begins with the Two of Cups Reversed
We had exactly this card opening February, so we should know what to expect with it in play once more!
Back In February I said this …
‘Right way up this is a good card but when reversed, oof! We’re looking at any or all of the following: love that’s turned bad or was simply awful to start with; false friends; troubled relationships; divorce; separation; conflicting desires; misunderstandings. You might be in conflict with a person, a political situation, or an aspect of yourself, but something is not right …’
Disney Tarot agrees with that analysis. Let this simmer away in your sub-conscious, like gløgg simmering on the stovetop, as we go step-by-step through April.
How April plays out: your week-by-week guide!
Week 1 (April 1st- 7th) - The King of Wands
Who amongst us wouldn’t welcome a mature, authoritative visionary like the King of Wands appearing in our lives? I think the Disney Tarot has made a good call giving this card to Jafar: a ‘powerful visionary’ who ‘sees the appeal of a diamond in the rough’.
King of Wands energy is often Svengali energy.
Trad tarot gives ‘inheritance’ as a meaning for this card. Consider this more broadly: not simply a transfer of material assets (most commonly from one generation to another), but a transaction of mutual benefit that doesn’t have to be in the form of filthy lucre.
Serge Gainsbourg, Malcolm Maclaren, reggae producer Joe Gibbs, and R. Kelly each in their own way offer excellent examples of King of Wands energy.
So this week, try and find the time to:
Channel Annabella Lwin perched on top of a washing machine in a Kings Road launderette.
Suck on a soucette and be open to approaches from a creative genius.
Let them see you in your pants an’ ting.
If you yourself are the King of Wands, rather than the protégé, here’s hoping you find the opportunity this week to create artistic work as good as Back & Forth, but do remember not to go so far into the villainous side of this King that you end up doing hard time locked up in a Cave of Wonders.
Week 2 (April 8th – 14th) – Nine of Coins
After two months of drought, the Tarot rains coins upon us!
The Nine of Cards is an auspicious card, and it’s the right way up: our ceaseless toil and innate worth has been recognised and we are finally getting to enjoy the fruits of our labour. And not a moment too soon, in my opinion.
The Disney tarot has the foresight to remind us not to blow the lot on loose horses and fast women (my phrasing, not theirs) but to make this good fortune LAST by managing our money carefully.
Week 3 (April 15th – 21st) – Ten of Wands Reversed
Bigger than a Nine you say? A TEN!
Indeed, but in the Tarot, bigger doesn’t always mean better, and the Ten of Wands is all about being over-burdened, bowed down by the weight of all those sticks we worked hard to gather.
It’s Reversed as well, so take this as a warning that you need to get someone on-side to help you tote that load as soon as possible. This doesn’t have to be a permanent arrangement, but if you can enlist a willing helper, then do so. Disney Tarot helps you to understand the importance of this guidance with the lovely image of the Wicked Queen from Snow White in her crone look.
Although Snow White was a simpering dullard, what did she have on her side, that enabled her to outwit the Wicked Queen? That’s right: seven willing helpers, who did all the daily grind to keep her fed and clothed, whilst she flicked a duster about, sang to some rabbits and enjoyed herself all day long.
If you are more of a Wicked Queen than a Snow White that doesn’t mean you have to go it alone: every Mortdecai needs a Jock (and a Mrs Spod, if the budget permits).Â
Week 4 (April 22nd to April 28th) – Eight of Coins Reversed
More Coins! Let joy be unconfined! But, since the auspicious Eight of Coins is Reversed, heed its warning!
Do NOT spend this week wasting your energy on small-scale thinking and busy-work. There will be a temptation to get bogged down in detail, preoccupied with little gripes and worries when you need to be thinking big and expansive.
Did you find a willing helper in Week 3? If so, task them with the admin and you can get on with the strategic parts of whatever heist or interesting caper you are currently engaged in. This is the pathway to future success.
Week 5 (April 29th to April 30th) – Ten of Swords
Has this month looked until now like it’s going swimmingly? Unusually enjoyable in fact? Brace yourself, because here comes the most horrible card in the whole deck to give us a fraught weekend.
This card is traditionally held to signify Ruination, Unavoidable Disaster, Failure, and Endings – but with the Ending, comes this card’s other important signifier – New Hope.
So, if something ghastly this way comes on the 28th and 29th grit your teeth and endure it. Hopefully, the past few weeks should have been easy enough that you’re resilient enough to withstand two days of FML energy – and it might be essential to move you onwards and upwards, because …
April closes with the Ten of Cups Reversed
Remember how we started this month with the Two of Cups reversed, the same card that opened February? It signifies friction in a partnership.
April closing with the Ten of Cups Reversed tells us that all is not well in close relationships that have previously been harmonious. Disney Tarot tells us to ‘stop treading water and dive below the surface to discover what’s really at the heart of the problem’.
This card does NOT indicate that the relationship is irredeemable, simply that it’s demanding some scrutiny and attention.
The TLDR for April:
Just like February, the month opens with something – or more likely someone – getting on our nerves. However, whilst the cards in February seemed really preoccupied with the situation, our cards for April barely give us time to consider that before sweeping us up in the warm embrace of the King of Wands, and then directing all our energies towards money – incoming and very welcome – and work.
In fact, we’re so busy with Coins and Wands throughout this month that when the Ten of Swords lands on the final two days of April, it seems particularly shocking.
HOLD YOUR NERVE.
The Ten of Swords could be some unforeseen horror created by an external force (almost certainly the current government, if you have the misfortune to be reading this in the UK), or it might be more personal, and tied to that Reversed Ten of Cups. That’s the card that suggests that we will be in an ‘Am I The Arsehole?’ situation with someone important to us. Maybe you are. Maybe I am. Maybe we all are.
Avoid getting caught up in a Climate of Blame, but do give that question some thought and take appropriate action towards lasting change – otherwise the the Two of Cups will continue to haunt us. Â

APRIL NOTES:
The Spread is very balanced this month, with all suits represented.
The Suit of Wands appears with one Court Card and one Minor Arcana card.  The Suits of Cups and Coins both appear with two Minor Arcana cards, whilst the Swords are represented with one Minor Arcana card – but it’s a shocker.
The Spread is notable for the appearance of three of the four Tens in the deck (the only Ten we are missing is the Ten of Coins).
This is a month of creative energy and consequent prosperity, so do NOT allow the predicted upset at the end distract you from taking advantage of that.
Colours of the spread are saturated primaries: red, yellow, and blue all feature and combine to create dramatic green, orange and purple.
Home furnishing suggestions are thin on the ground but fashion notes of dramatic capes and turbans suggest we’ll be out and about this month, so our evil lair needs no additional comforts.
