Please Note! This review will NOT focus on the efficiency of these products in eliminating cellulite, because that is not something that I want to do. If cellulite wants to live with me, I’m happy to live with it!

How I use these products …
Weleda Birch Body Scrub
The helpful info on the tube suggests that you use this once a week in the shower, massaging it on with circular movements, and then rinsing thoroughly.
My preference is to glob it on all over from the neck down, using whatever kind of motion feels appropriate in the moment – often an exuberant sweep up and down my arms and legs.
When I feel in the need of a really thorough de-scaling, I sometimes apply it using those little scratchy gloves that a decade ago were a bit of a Korean speciality.
I’m not a naturally habitual person either, so I will go at it with this product once or twice a week when I want to feel that I’ve shed my skin like a snake, and then forget all about it for ages.
It’s a pleasure to use: the exfoliating bits are grainy enough to do their job without feeling harsh and gritty, and they are suspended in an oily cream that smells light and fresh (the effect of grapefruit and cypress essential oils in the formula, according to Weleda). It rinses off easily and leaves my skin feeling soft and receptive to further treatment.

WELEDA Birch Cellulite Oil
Bottled in dark green glass with a pump dispenser, you get 100 ml of this divine elixir, and I find that a little goes a long way.
WELEDA recommend that this product is used as a treatment for cellulite and claim clinically proven results of ‘firmer and smoother skin’ if this oil is massaged into the skin twice a day for at least four weeks. And then – if you want the smoother and firmer effect to last – WELEDA suggest you massage with the oil once a day.
I don’t manage my time well enough to use any body oil or lotion every day, and even if I did manage to achieve a daily routine, I wouldn’t be able to stick to using the same product for very long. I like to switch things up – especially when I’m using natural products and essential oils.
When I have the time to be thorough I apply the Weleda Birch Oil to my whole self, from the neck down, and bask in the contented glow of feeling head-to-toe moisturised and massaged. When I’m under pressure and only have time for the most basic self-care, I sometimes grab the bottle and rub some into my arms before getting into bed. I find the scent super-relaxing. It doesn’t linger very long, but just long enough to calm me down and encourage me to sleep.

I love the light, fresh fragrances of both products. Writing this post has inspired me to see if WELEDA offer the Birch Oil scent as an actual perfume – I’d wear it if they did. It makes me feel healthier than I know myself to be, which makes it a good ‘fake it until you make it’ product. (I am intending to get a little bit healthier; you see. Now that I’m a little bit older, it seems wise.)
More importantly, it gives me a good kick of Scandi-Chic. Sorry WELEDA: I know that you are a German company, and that these particular products are made in Switzerland, but what can I say? The heart wants what the heart wants, and sometimes my heart wants to trick my head into believing that I have some of the effortless elegance and natural beauty and sex appeal of my Scandinavian friends and relatives, who benefit from living in countries that take the environment seriously, and as a consequence get to drink and wash with lovely clean water, and breathe fresh air.
In Conclusion …
These WELEDA products are an olfactory aid allowing me to imagine that I’m wandering through a forest in North Norway, snow crunching under my feet. The WELEDA Birch Scrub polishes up my skin in an instant, and the WELEDA Birch Cellulite Oil is far too good to reserve for so-called ‘problem’ areas.
These products offer a quick and easy route to baby-soft skin. The WELEDA Birch Scrub delivers gentle but highly satisfying exfoliation. The Birch Cellulite Oil seals in that soft, clean skin feeling and adds a layer of gleam and scent without being too sticky or heavy. They work effectively on their own; in perfect harmony when used together.

Bonus financial advice moment!
Interested readers might have noticed that not only have I flouted WELEDA’s suggestions for usage with these products, I have also gone into my stash to create this post.
I first began using these particular two products in 2019, loved them, and then stashed them away part-used when I had other products to test.
When Calypso Royale mentioned the therapeutic benefits of birch in her March tarot reading for this site, it prompted me to retrieve these products. I expected to find that they needed binning, given they have both by now gone past their batch date. To my delight, they seem absolutely fine, and I have used them throughout this month.
I mention this not to show that I am a skank (although I am a bit of a skank) but to reassure anyone concerned that they might not use up these products in time to get bang for buck, that they seem very robust – especially for natural products. Seal after use and keep them away from light and I think you should definitely get your money’s worth from them.
